SELECTED LETTERS OF SALMON P. CHASE

NEW ORLEANS, October 3rd, 1863.

DEAR SIR: I enclose several new General orders just issued by the commanding General. Our troops are advancing up the Bayou Teche and already are some distance beyond Franklin. The Rebels will make a stand at Vermillion
Bayou, if they should anywhere in Louisiana.
Everything thus far has been satisfactory.
