There are two distinct sections to this cemetery; the east and west sides are divided by a ravine. The west side is newer and has the Darby Township Cemetery sign (shown above) displayed. This same side is also still receiving remains. The east half is much older and almost seems like a church graveyard as it is just to the west of the Unionville Center United Methodist Church. You will find many of the same names in both sides of the cemetery, evidence that roots in this part of the county run deep and are well established. The two sides are sometimes called Old Darby and New Darby. For those who like to compare the new with the old you might want to see a vintage postcard of Unionville Center Cemetery and a present day photo of the same view.
I have a complete gravestone index of the old cemetery and will be happy to do lookups for anyone who believes they have family buried there. We will also be happy to fill requests for photos from this cemetery. Just write to Leona at
. If you have photographs in your collection from this or any Union County cemetery that you would like to share I will be happy to put them online. Please write to me before sending any photographs.
