Laura A Claypool, daughter of Stephen Claypool & Permelia Collins, was born February 2, 1836 in Hocking County, Ohio. Laura married Pinkney Shriner, son of Peter Shriner & Leah Dunkle. The marriage most likely occurred in Vinton County about 1854. There the couple raised a family of six children, three girls--Leah Permilla, Adela Elizabeth, Amanda J., and three boys--Charles Homer, Hilas P., and Pinkney D. Unfortunately, Pinkney D. Shriner died October 1, 1869, twelve days prior to the birth of their last child, Pinkney D.

Laura Shriner remained a widow and resided in Franklin County, Ohio with her son, Pinkney D. Shriner, M. D., until her death on the 13th day of June 1907. Laura is buried near her son, Dr. P. D. Shriner, and daughter, Amanda J. Shriner Ridgway, at Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus.

Laura's husband, Pinkney, served in Company F, 114th infantry Ohio regiment during the Civil War, enlisting in August 1862 at at age 30. He mustered out on May 15, 1865 at Memphis, Tennessee.
