EVANS John B. Evans, age 92, of Upper Arlington, died Wednesday, December 3, 2003 at Riverside Methodist Hospital after an extended illness. He was born December 15, 1910 in Richwood, Ohio the son of Hallie and Anna (Richardson) Evans. He graduated from York Center High School in York Center, Ohio. He began his aviation career in 1932 as an aircraft owner and pilot. In 1934, he became a State Trooper for the Ohio Department of Highways. He was a flight instructor for Foster Lane at Port Columbus and with the U.S. Army Air Corps. He became a flight inspector with the Federal Aeronautics Administration in 1942, performing aviation service throughout the United States and South America. In 1945, he returned to Ohio and served as a flight instructor and transport pilot for The Ohio State University School of Aviation. In 1952, he served as executive and photographic pilot for the Ohio Department of Transportation, retiring in 1975. He was a mem- ber of OX5 Aviation Pioneers and Riverside United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Martha Hanlin Brady and by his brothers Allen E. Evans and Fred D. Evans. John is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Helen L. Evans; sons and daughters- in-law, John David and Anna Evans of Chesapeake, VA and Gary Linn and Penny Evans of The Woodlands, TX; grandchildren, Gregory Linn (Amanda) Evans of New Windsor, NY and Erin Lynn Evans of Dublin, OH; great grandson, Kyle Richard Evans; great granddaughter, Kasey Rhianon Evans; nieces, Marcy Armani and Carol O'Rourke; nephews, James Robert Wood, Steven Linn Wood, Jeffery Benton Wood, Scott Norris Wood, Jack Evans and Stan Evans; and sisters-in-law, Margaret Evans, Mildred Linn Raymond, and Rose- mary Wood. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2003 at Riverside United Methodist Church, 2701 Zollinger Road, Columbus, OH 43221 where the family will receive friends im- mediately following the service. Rev. David M. Griebner and Rev. Pete Snook will officiate. Interment will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday at York Center Cemetery, York Center, Ohio.
