David Calvin Blacksten

My maternal grandfather, David Calvin Blacksten, born in 1872, died in 1954.  He worked in a coal mine at age 14.  He told us of using ponies in the mines and that he had to hold on to its tail.  He said that if he let go the pony would kick his carbine hat off.  I'm not sure how long he worked there.  His dad was a farmer.
