FRANK HABERMAN
&
BESSIE METTLES

Contributed by:
Lori Jackey

Bessie Kathryn Mettles (1893-1968) with her future husband, Frank Joseph Haberman (1893-1987). They were married in 1917 and this photo was taken on The Ohio State University campus about a year before.

Bessie was one of five children, the only daughter, of George Thomas Mettles (1869-1899) and his wife Daisy Della Kelly (1873-1955). Bessie's brothers, George Dell, Harry, Harold Bryant, and Ralph Sanford all died as infants and are all buried at Green Lawn Cemetery. Bessie’s paternal grandfather, Ezekiel Mettles (1833-1914), briefly published a newspaper in Columbus called The Columbus Review. It was a small daily that commenced in 1870 and was only published for a brief time.

At this time little is known about Frank Haberman's family and ancestry. Frank and Bessie had five children; one of whom is still living. Frank’s parents were George (1852-?) and Eva Welch (1856-1945). Bessie is buried at Union Cemetery in Columbus and Frank is buried in Mercer County.
