THE COLUMBUS CITIZEN, Friday, August 26, 1938, page 4B Veteran of 3 Wars Dies; Rites Sunday Franklin Post, No. 1. of the American Legion and the United Spanish War Veterans will hold joint military services at 2 p. m. Sunday for George W. Shartle, World War and Spanish-American War veteran, who died yesterday at his home, 3929 Dublin- rd. of a stroke of apoplexy suffered a week ago. Mr. Shartle, owner of the Shartle Machine Co., 447 W. Broad-st., was 63 years old. As a member of the Fourth Ohio Infantry, Mr. Shartle was wounded in Cuba during the Spanish-American War. Later he served on the Mexican border, and he went to France as a first lieutenant in Company F. 112th Supply Train, 37th Division. He was wounded. In addition to the American Legion and United Spanish War Veterans, he was a mem- ber of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Shartle is survived by his wife Emma Lovett Shartle, and one sister. The body will lie at the O'Shaughnessy mortuary until Sunday, and burial will be in the Am- erican Legion plot in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Dublin-rd.
