Established in 1877, Union Grove Cemetery is the largest of a trio of final resting places located side by side; the others are Arlington Field of Honor and Winchester Abby Mausoleum.  But even before these three cemeteries were established there was at least one cemetery here.  Hughes Cemetery on land that later became part of Union Grove, and the earliest stone was dated 1832.  Most remains buried at the old Kramer Cemetery, established in 1801 have been moved to Union Grove as have many of the remains form the Reformed & Lutheran Cemetery that was originally located behind Canal Winchester High School.  Union Grove is an active cemetery located at 400 Winchester Cemetery Road, which crosses Route 33 on the northwest edge of Canal Winchester and dead ends just past the entrance to the cemetery.  This picturesque cemetery is unusual in that the graves of the most recently deceased are mixed in with those of the earliest.  It is the final resting place for those who have served their country in times of peace and war since the Civil War (Veterans' Memorial), and at least one descendant of the Mayflower Pilgrims who became a pioneer in his own time is buried here (see Fuller below).  In addition, Jarvis W. Pike, the first mayor of Columbus (1816-1817) and his wife, Eleanor "Ellen" (Moore) Pike are buried here, having been relocated from a small family graveyard on the Moore farm north of Circleville.  We hope to have photos of the gravestone(s) soon.
