Pool Family Gravestones (Highbanks Metro Park, Fraklin & Delaware Counties, OH)

Gravestone Photographs

You will notice that this page has a little different title than any of the other pages on this Web site.  The photographs on this page are not photos of a family graveyard; they are simply the gravestones that once marked the graves of members of the Pool family who resided in Sharon Township, Franklin County.  The sign posted near the fenced plot says:

"The gravstones in this small, recreated cemetery belong to some of this area's earliest settlers.  Joseph and Sally Pool arrived from New York in 1812.  They farmed the land that is now part of Highbanks. The Pool family had 13 children, which was not unusual during that time.

"No one knows the location of the actual graves. These stones were found on land just south of the park and moved here in 1981.  They represent the last known pioneer family graveyard in Sharon Township [Franklin County]."

According to Franklin County, Ohio Cemeteries: Sharon & Perry Townships, volume five of eleven, compiled by The Franklin County Genealogical Society a chapter of The Ohio Genealgical Society (Columbus, 1983), Introduction to Sharon Township Cemeteries, the "Pool Cemetery" was "located .7 mile north of Flint Road on [the] west side of U. S. Route 23" (High Street) in the yard of a private residence.
