I recently drove a familiar route from my home to our daughter's when the sign pictured above caught my eye for the first time.  Something, perhaps the colorful flowers so near the road, aroused my curiosity causing me to look to my right as I passed.

Unfortunately the sign, the flowers, a broken stone, and a flag intended to commemorate one or more long gone soldiers are all that remain of the Ferris Cemetery, established in 1848.  Located on the east side of Riverside Drive between Emerald Parkway and Bright Road, this sign has been erected since 1981 when the cemetery was listed by the Franklin County Genealogical society as "no evidence remains."  Behind the green undergrowth and trees seen here is a farmers field and if there were ever stones commemorating the lives of those buried here they are long gone.

The WPA Map (graphic is not shown at the original scale) indicates that there is enough space for eight rows of fourteen graves to each row. It also shows no veteran burials, nor are any Ferris Cemetery veteran burials listed with the Franklin County Veteran Grave Registration.
