Obituaries Columbus Dispatch, The (OH) - Monday, July 2, 2007 TINSLEY Edward Harold Tinsley , passed away at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 23, 2007, in Beneva Park Health and Rehabilitation Center, Sarasota, FL. Born December 3, 1916, at Lynn, Greenup County, KY, he was the son of the late Edward Harold and Viola Mae Veach Tinsley. He was also preceded in death by his wife Ruth Brown Tinsley and brother Marion Franklin Tinsley , Ph.D. He is survived by brother, Joseph Samuel Tinsley , Thornville, OH; sister, Mary Frances Tinsley Clark of Humble, TX; two nieces, Carol Clark Huber and Lisa Tinsley Shankle; two nephews, Walter Clark and Edward Harold Tinsley ; step-daughter, Roberta Brown Alexander, Bradenton, FL; and several great nieces, nephews and cousins. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1937-1945 and was on the USS Bristol; USS Lyman K. Swen- son; USS Astoria and the USS West Virginian. Edward was awarded the Navy Purple Heart for wounds received in action against an enemy of the United States on October 13, 1943, when the destroyer USS Bristol was torpedoed and sunk by a German Submarine in the Mediterrane- an. He was an elementary school teacher in the Greenup County Kentucky School system from 1935-1937 and worked as a welder for Tropicana in Sarasota, FL until his retirement. A Mem- orial Service including Military Honors will be held in Columbus, Ohio at 1 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2007, at Green Lawn Cemetery.
