Chenoweth Cemetery, Pleasant Twp., Franklin County, Ohio

Gravestone Photographs

Chenoweth Cemetery is located on private property on the south side of Gay Road, just west of Harrisburg-Georgesville Road.  The earliest recorded stone is dated 1815.  While many small cemeteries in Franklin County are the final resting place for veterans who fought for their country, I believe that Chenoweth Cemetery might be unique in that there are five Revolutionary War veterans buried here (See Franklin County Veteran Grave Registration). A complete photographic inventory was made on April 28, 2006--the photos appear on this page. Several of the stones were too badly broken or weather worn for us to be able to read them with any certainty. Those will be found in the Unknown list; whenever possible an attempt was made to identify the person represented by that stone.

Since the last published reading of the gravestones several stones have been damaged.  Where necessary I have supplemented the inscriptions using information found in Volume 10, Franklin County, Ohio Cemeteries, Jackson & Pleasant Townships, compiled by The Franklin County Genealogical Society a chapter of The Ohio Genealogical Society (Columbus, 1988), pages 112-115. Information found in the book will usually appear in brackets -- [ ].

Sadly, someone had visited the cemetery recently and used a wire brush on some of the stones to make them appear more legible--wire brushes should never be used on any gravestone as it causes damage that would have taken years to occur naturally.
